SESSION TOPIC: Is It PR or Is It Marketing

Rebecca Davis’s twenty plus years’ experience in consumer media and technology platforms encompasses strategic marketing, communications strategy, consumer research, and deep knowledge of paid, earned and owned media.    Rebecca’s combination of creative development, brand strategy and new platform adoption has proved valuable for clients across industries.

As practice lead in the DC office for Social@Ogilvy, Rebecca manages the digital strategy, design & development and content teams serving Ogilvy’s corporate, social marketing, and public affairs clients.

Rebecca came most recently from Discovery Communications, where she developed digital and brand strategies across Discovery’s fourteen US networks.  At Discovery, she created and ran the digital media planning & partnership teams, wrote Discovery’s first social media strategy, and led Discovery Channel’s award-winning Influencer program.  She acted as brand manager for digital networks FitTV and Discovery Health, launched Discovery Education’s Cosmeo, an online homework help video product, and led marketing efforts for mobile, social, and online video platforms.

Prior to Discovery, Rebecca built and managed HSN.com’s digital marketing team, signing that IAC subsidiary’s first digital advertising deals.  In this role, she built affiliate, search, email and cross-platform programs to maximize traffic and significantly increase digital sales.  She conducted comprehensive cannibalization and share-of-wallet analyses, justifying incremental marketing spend and optimizing product and marketing mix based on profitability.  Rebecca’s background also includes several technology startups and consulting in Accenture’s communications and technology practice, where she served mobile, communications, and high tech clients, primarily in sales & marketing engagements.

Rebecca holds a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.  Rebecca lives in Washington, DC, where she volunteers with local non-profits, including Martha’s Table, developing social outreach and marketing strategy.
